On receiving hate
The other day I was having a conversation with friends...
We all have online followings of varying sizes so the conversation drifted to receiving hate in content creation.
You know the type of hate I mean - perhaps someone leaves a comment as an attempt to knock you down rather than build you up. Perhaps they poke fun at you. It can get worse than this but this should be very infrequently if you bear what I'm going to cover in this piece in mind.
Here's why hate should never be a problem when making content:
I assume you're creating content with positive intent, to inform or enlighten people. You must also bear in mind the idea that everyone is generally selfish and does things for personal good.
You can start to see how paradoxical it would be for people to go out of their way to hate your content when the intent behind it is positive. It takes enough effort as it is to get behind it and say something positive in encouragement. let alone going against the general grain of the audience and openly hating your positive work.
Of course, if you're posting something that spreads negativity in any way, you're more likely to have people hating your work.
If you remain positive, people who dislike or disagree with what you make will just skip past what you've made. It doesn't matter enough to them to point out what they dislike, especially when you're being positive.
Of course, as your audience grows, negative responses will become more common. This doesn't matter as they will pale in comparison to the amount of positive feedback you now receive.
The important part of this whole equation is the intent...
So long as you have positive intent with what you're creating, worrying about hate is pointless.
I don't care that negativity sells. Cultivate positivity amongst your following.
